Who is an Enrolled Agent?

An Enrolled Agent is a federally licensed tax practitioner who has unlimited rights to represent taxpayers before the IRS for any issues relating to collections, audits, or tax appeals. To become an EA one needs to pass Special Enrollment Exam (SEE). The syllabus of SEE is divided into three parts,

  • Part 1 covers Individuals;
  • Part 2 covers Businesses;
  • Part 3 includes Representation, Practices and Procedures

Applicants need PTIN to schedule a test. After passing one part, one gets three years to pass the other two parts of the exam.

The IRS Enrolled Agent exam, or the Special Enrollment Examination (SEE), is a three-part exam that individuals must pass to become Enrolled Agents (EAs).
